WASHINGTON (CN) - The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that a loss of cabin pressure in a Bombardier Challenger 300 corporate jet was caused by dust in the safety valve of the pressure sensing device, according to a new airworthiness directive.
The Challenger 300 carries up to nine passengers and is marketed as a "high-altitude boardroom."
The Canadian aviation authority, advised the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration that the capsule that senses cabin pressure in the jet in question had leaked previously, but that this action alone would not have allowed the safety valve to fail.
The dust or lint had accumulated on the grid of the port plug, according to the Canadian agency, so the FAA is requiring the jet's operators to replace the plug on each device with one that does not have a grid.
