BOSTON (CN) - A federal class action accuses the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and the Massachusetts Port Authority of gearing up to charge non-resident travelers several times what residents pay to use the same bridges and tunnels. The plaintiffs say non-residents with the E-ZPass or FAST LANE pass have to pay more to use the Ted Williams and Sumner tunnels and the Tobin Memorial Bridge.
Beginning on July 1, 2009, non-residents using the E-ZPass will pay 17.5 times what residents pay to use the tunnels, the plaintiffs claim. The class includes out-of-state travelers and drivers who live outside certain areas of the state, according to the lawsuit.
The plaintiffs say the discriminatory pricing policies violate the U.S. Constitution. They are represented by David Pastor with Gilman and Pastor LLP.
