Exporter Says Bayer’s GM Rice Cost It Plenty

HOUSTON (CN) - A food exporter has sued another food company over six barge loads of rice that werecontaminated by"Liberty Link," a genetically modified rice. The shipment was sent to theEuropean Union, which bans genetically modified food.

Riviana Foods Says theBayer CropScience andRiceland Foods are responsible for the contamination of the shipment withBayer's"LibertyLink" rice. Riviana seeks the value of theshipment, the cost of therecall and destruction and damages for the loss ofits reputation in the 25 EU nations and Norway. See complaint.
