Exporter Says Bayer’s GM Rice Cost It Plenty

HOUSTON (CN) – A food exporter has sued another food company over six barge loads of rice that were contaminated by “Liberty Link,” a genetically modified rice. The shipment was sent to the European Union, which bans genetically modified food.
Riviana Foods Says the Bayer CropScience and Riceland Foods are responsible for the contamination of the shipment with Bayer’s “LibertyLink” rice. Riviana seeks the value of the shipment, the cost of the recall and destruction and damages for the loss of its reputation in the 25 EU nations and Norway. See complaint.
