Explosives Found Off Coast of Maine

WASHINGTON (CN) - Munitions and explosives have been found off of Seal Island, Maine, prompting the Coast Guard to prohibit marine travel in certain areas, out to a depth of 60 feet.

The U.S. Government had used the island for aerial bombing practice, and left what the Coast Guard terms "munitions and explosives of concern" on the island and in the water.

The local Coast Guard captain may grant permission to go into the safety zone, where certain rules must be followed.
