MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A federal court in Alabama refused to block the lethal injection execution of Willie B. Smith, which is set for Thursday. Smith, who was convicted of kidnapping and murdering a woman in 1991, asked the court for a preliminary injunction to block his execution by any method other than nitrogen hypoxia before his Americans with Disabilities Act claim is resolved.
