Excitement at the County Courthouse

BENTON, Ill. (CN) -Franklin County officials said a man was driving drunk when his sport utility vehicle slammed into the county courthouse. Police say Brandon Mandrell hit a concrete base and a tree before his vehicle came to rest against the building, upside down. The impact of accident shot chunks of concrete, rock and mud through the circuit clerk's window.

Mandrell was treated at a hospital; no one else was injured.

Mandrell, 28, also was charged with not wearing a seat belt, driving too fast for conditions and illegally transporting alcohol.
