TRENTON, N.J. (CN) - A retired police officer was properly stripped of his right to carry a concealed weapon after he flashed his handgun during two confrontations with fellow citizens, the New Jersey Appellate Division ruled.
James Andros, a 25-year Atlantic City police veteran, pulled out his handgun after grappling on the beach with a Fourth of July reveler who had yelled at him for driving his SUV too close to a large crowd.
"I'm packing, stay back!" Andros shouted.
Andros also pulled out his .38-caliber weapon on the side of the road after a motorist complained that Andros had cut him off. Police arrived and ordered Andros to drop his weapon.
Judge Stern wrote that the trial court properly revoked Andros' right to carry a concealed weapon.
"There was good cause for the revocation of the license," the judge wrote. "A retired officer's conduct permits the licensing state to revoke the permit, as evidenced by the requirements for qualification and testing every year."
