WASHINGTON (CN) - Former District of Columbia Councilman Michael A. Brown was sentenced Thursday to 39 months in federal prison for taking bribes.
Brown, 49, took $55,000 from undercover FBI agents posing as officials of a company that wanted to win government contracts. He pleaded guilty to bribery in June 2013.
Brown also will have to forfeit $35,000 and do 200 hours of community service when he is released. He is the third member of the D.C. City Council to plead guilty to corruption charges in the past 3 years.
Brown was elected in November 2008 and served until Jan. 2, 2013.
