Ex-City Official Gets 2 1/2 Years

SAN DIEGO (CN) - A former councilwoman for El Cajon was sentenced Monday to 2 1/2 years in federal prison and ordered to pay $3.7 million in restitution to her former employer and $1.2 million in back taxes.

Jillian Hanson-Cox, 53, pleaded guilty in September to a two-count felony information accusing her of embezzling $3.5 million from Century Design Inc., of San Diego, and failing to report it on her income tax returns.

Hanson-Cox was Century Design's controller from 2004 to 2208, during which time she embezzled about $3.5 million, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.

El Cajon, pop. 95,000, is east of San Diego.
