WASHINGTON (CN) - The United States has requested consultations with the European Communities to reinstate lower tariffs for flat screen displays, multifunction fax machines, and communication boxes with Ethernet modems, hard disks or DVD drives, according to a U.S. Trade Representative Office notice.
The United States alleges the tariff practices are against the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of 1994.
If consultations fail and a dispute settlement panel is established under World Trade Organization rules the panel would hold its meetings in Geneva, Switzerland, and would be expected to issue a report on its findings within nine months of convening.
