Euro Zone Generates Trade Surplus in May

In a tale of two europes, the euro zone of the European Union generated a large 1.9 bn euro trade surplus in May. While the 27 nations in the EU as a whole generated a whopping deficit of 6.8 bn euro. The euro zone surplus came as both exports and imports fell by 2.7% and 2.8%, suggesting a signinficant slow down in consumer purchases. On the bright side, the euro zone surplus for May was less than the 2.7 bn surplus for April.
