Unemployment in the region using the euro was 7.5% in August with over 11.5 million unemployed, much higher than Japan's 4.2% or the US's 6.1%. In Europe, Spain had the highest unemployment rate of 11.3%, and the Netherlands had a 2.6% rate, the lowest. Both the U.S. and Japan differ from Europe with higher unemployment rates for men than for women.
