In the European Union, employment climbed by a seasonally adjusted 1.3% between the second quarter of 2007 and that of this year. This comes after the 0.2% boost in the second quarter, when 401,000 people joined the workforce, totaling 226.4 million workers. In the last year, Lithuania was the only member country to report a decrease in employment, dropping 0.6%. Malta posted the highest gains, growing 3.7% in the same time-frame.
