EU Records Massive Trade Surplus With U.S. in 2007

The European Union racked up an 80 billion euro surplus in trade with the U.S. in 2007, a number that should diminish as the euro rises against the dollar. While the cross-Atlantic trade remains the biggest shipping lane in the world, the U.S. role as dominant exporter of manufactured goods to Europe has been taken over by up-and-comer China. Germany was the biggest exporter from Europe to the U.S. with a total of 73 billion euro last year.
