LUXEMBOURG — The European General Court ruled Tuesday that a year-long noncompete clause between Portugal Telecom and Spain-based Telefonica, signed when Telefonica bought Brazil's mobile carrier Vivo, violated EU law.

The court's opinions were not made available in English.
