EU Inflation at 4 Percent

European Union inflation held roughly steady in July at a 4.4% annual rate following a similar rate in June, but up substantially from a year ago when inflation was at a low, low 2%. The principal pressure point on prices came from fuel and food and housing. The best number was posted by the Netherlands with a 3% annual inflation rate and the worst were racked up by the former Eastern Block nations: Lithuania at 12.4%, Bulgaria at 14.4% and Latvia running at a nearly Argentine-style rate of 15.1%.
