EU Food Up 7.1 Percent

     Food prices spiked in the European Union during April, rising 7.1% over the same month a year ago, while breaking away from the overall inflation rate which stood at 3.1%. While food prices have increased the world over, the recent statistics from Europe point to the inflationary pressure caused by that rise. Over the last ten years, food prices have moved in very close step with the overall inflation rate. But in April, the rise in food prices was more than double the overall rate.
