In a rare bit of good economic news, retail trade in the European Union appeared stable in December with no change from Novmber's numbers. The average volume of retail trade for 2008, compared with 2007, fell by 1.4% in the countries that use the euro but increased slightly by 0.1% in the EU as a whole.
