(CN) - ESPN reporter and recent "Dancing with the Stars" finalist Erin Andrews sued several hotel chains Thursday after she says an Illinois man followed her across the country and secretly videotaped her "while changing and/or getting dressed" on multiple occasions.
The lawsuit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, accuses several hotel chains, including Marriott International and Radisson Hotels International, of negligence, infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy.
Andrews says defendant Michael David Barrett used his cell phone to call hotels to find out where she was staying, and then asked to be placed in a room next to hers.
She says he then altered the peephole on her hotel room doors, rigged them with a camera and posted videos of her naked on the Internet.
She says the hotels were negligent for revealing to Barrett where she was staying, and for failing to discover that he had altered the peepholes in her rooms.
Barrett pleaded guilty in December to charges including having the intent to harass or cause emotional distress. He also admitted that he tried to sell the videos to TMZ.
He was sentenced to a little more than two years in prison.
Andrews seeks at least $650,000 for negligence, invasion of privacy and infliction of emotional distress.
Named as defendants in the 25-page complaint are: West End Hotel Partners; Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University; Windsor Capital Group; Radisson Hotel Milwaukee Airport; the Ohio State University, d.b.a. The Blackwell Inn; Preferred Hotel Group; Summit Hotels & Resorts; and Barrett.
