WASHINGTON (CN) - The Environmental Protection Agency proposes to remove 62 acres of a wood pressure treatment plant known as AT&SF Albuquerque from the list superfund clean up sites.
The AT&SF operated from 1907 to 1972 using creosote and oil mixtures to treat wood products. According to the agency, most of the contaminated material at the site was dirt, and 45,000 square feet of soil from a wastewater reservoir has been removed from the site.
In addition, a non-permeable cap has been placed where the contaminated soil was excavated and clean backfill has been added to the site. The agency has determined that the delisted part of the site can be reused for industrial development.
