EPA Adds Drinking Water|Quality Test Methods

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Environmental Protection Agency Public has approved twelve new methods for water systems to monitor compliance with the Safe Water Drinking Act.

The EPA has determined that the newly approved tests are as effective as current methods in detecting contaminants, and should allow for faster determination of compliance, reducing costs.

An example test is Method 57, which allows the use of mass spectrometry to check water for nine different haloacetic acids, dalapon and bromate all at once, eliminating the time consuming process of extraction and derivation of each potential contaminant, which currently is the standard way to detect the presence and concentration of contaminants.
