ALBUQUERQUE (CN) - WildEarth Guardians want to protect the tortoise and the hare. In federal lawsuits filed on successive days, the environmental group claims the Secretary of the Interior and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are failing to protect the white-sided jackrabbit and the Sonoran desert tortoise.
In both cases, WildEarth Guardians claims the defendants failed to issue rulings within 90 days after submission of a petition, as required by the Environmental Protection Act.
WildEarth Guardians and the jackrabbits are represented by Samantha Ruscavage-Barz.
WildEarth Guardians, the Western Watersheds Project and the tortoises are represented by Steven Sugerman of Santa Fe.
