LOS ANGELES (CN) - A federal judge has affirmed environmental requirements imposed on trucks hauling cargo through the nation's two biggest ports, Los Angeles and Long Beach, in a ruling on Wednesday that rejected a challenge by the American Trucking Association.

The NRDC, the Sierra Club, and the Coalition for Clean Air pushed for the controls on trucks working at the ports and defended the resulting environmental in the face of the Constitutional challenge from the truckers.
Pettit said the resistance by the American Truckers Association was misguided. He said a lot of ATA's members want to work at the ports and the ATA leadership is out of touch with the local members.
Represented by its deputy chief counsel Robert Diggs Jr., the ATA will seek immediate review of the ruling by Judge Christina Snyder. Diggs argued that the environmental provisions are redundant because a program already exists to replace old trucks with newer, cleaner trucks.
