The People of California seek an injunction in Contra Costa County Court to stop Sheral Shortz, Van Richard Bond, Loenard Serpa and L. Serpa Trucking from continuing their plans to dam a portion of Pinole Creek, disrupting the fish, plant and bird life.
Three class actions demand millions of dollars in damages from companies that were allegedly responsible for spilling 500,000 gallons of heavy fuel oil into the Mississippi River. The defendants in Louisiana Federal Court are Laurin Maritime, Whitefin Shipping Co., DRD Towing Company, American Commercial Lines, Mel Oliver M/V, Tintomara M/V, and the New Orleans-Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots Association.
