Entertainment Industry Triumphs in Piracy Case

(CN) - In a high-profile victory for the entertainment industry, a court in Sweden on Friday convicted four men of copyright infringement for their roles in creating or funding the file-sharing service The Pirate Bay.

The Pirate Bay founders Frederick Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg and Peter Sunde, and financier Carl Lundstrom, were each sentenced to a year in prison. They must also pay 30 million kronor, or about $3.6 million, to leading entertainment companies.

The Pirate Bay offers links to thousands of songs, movies, video games and other content, and helps users download them illegally.
