Endangered Species

WASHINGTON (CN) -The dusky tree vole and its red colored cousin the red tree vole may be headed for extinction according to a petition calling for the vole's protection under the Endangered Species Act.

The old growth tree dwelling vole is threatened by loss of habitat due to excessive logging, states the petition submitted to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by the Center for Biological Diversity and other environmental groups.

The service has released a 90 Day Finding, the first step in listing a species as endangered, and is asking for public comment.
