Michael Bird, a ship's captain, claims Foss Maritime Co. fired him for reporting safety violations to the Coast Guard, including oil leaks, failing to report the grounding of an oil barge, and forcing captains to work 12-hour shifts, in Oakland, Calif., Federal Court.

Former Police Chief Ronald Morris claims the City of Shepherdsville fired him illegally in retaliation for his reports of Mayor Sherman Tinnell's "mismanagement, waste, fraud and abuse of authority," in Bullitt County Court, Ky.

United Scaffolding fired a black worker who objected to graffiti "KKK," "fuck niggers" and a swastika, at his work site, and to white co-workers who repeated the epithets, directed at him, Lonnie Broom claims in Houston Federal Court.

Family Subs told its only black employee, "Around here we lynch niggers and you are on the wrong side of town," and fired him when he complained to the EEOC, Jonathan Walker claims in Anniston, Ala., Federal Court.

Two women sued their boss, Donald Murphy, and MV Transportation, which operates buses for the co-defendant City of Elk Grove, claiming Murphy assaulted and battered, sexually harassed, constructively fired and otherwise harmed them with repeated, indecent and disgusting sexual behavior, including soliciting them for prostitution, in Sacramento Superior Court.

Thirteen female police officers claim the City of Hayward harasses, discriminates, retaliates and provides a hostile work environment and constructively fired four of them, in Alameda County Court, Hayward.

David Krauss claims Texas Specialty Underwriters refused to hire him because he would not endorse its "statement of faith" and "personally search for the meaning of life ... through Jesus Christ," in Dallas Federal Court.

Kellogg Sales Co. discriminates against women, and fired one of the two female managers in its "Snacks Division" for complaining of it, Tracy Aynes claims in Seattle Federal Court.

Class-action complaints alleging Labor Code violations have been filed against these defendants: FedEx Ground Package System, in Salt Lake Federal Court; Mentice Inc., in Chicago Federal Court; DTK Inc. and Rhino Environmental Systems, in Houston Federal Court; Alderwoods Group, SCI Funeral and Cemetery Purchasing Cooperative and affiliates, in San Francisco Federal Court; Resort Nursing Home, in Brooklyn Federal Court; Chart House Restaurant, in Los Angeles Superior Court; R&D Electronics, and BAE Systems, in Huntsville, Ala., Federal Court; BDO Seidman LLP, in Santa Ana, Calif., Federal Court; First United Mortgage Services, in Fort Lauderdale Federal Court; United Cerebral Palsy of New York City, in New York County Court; and LTS Management Services, in Kansas City, Mo., Federal Court.
