Seven class actions in St. Charles Parish Court, Hahnville, La., accuse corporations of damaging workers' hearing by years of exposure to hazardous levels of noise. Defendants are Shell Chemical, Shell Oil, Union Carbide, Monsanto, Occidental Chemical, and Witco Corp.

Local 2 of the Federation of Teachers claims New York City's "weighted student funding policy" discriminates against old people by penalizing school principals who hire old teachers, in New York County Court.

Class-action complaints alleging Labor Code violations have been filed against these defendants: Cargill Meat Solutions, in Fresno Superior Court; Kohl's Department Stores, in Alameda County Court, Oakland; JB Hunt Transport, in Los Angeles Superior Court; Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort, in San Luis Obispo Superior Court; US Bank Home Mortgage, in Cincinnati Federal Court; Combine Services, in Atlanta Federal Court; Boston Culinary Group, in a tipping class action, in Suffolk County Court, Mass.; Wisconsin Bell, in Green Bay Federal Court; OS Restaurant Services, in West Palm Beach Federal Court; and Richmond American Homes of Florida, and Profast Supply, in Tampa Federal Court.
