A black firefighter claims the City of Paterson fired him illegally for speaking at a City Council about racial discrimination in the fire department - on the pretext that he had failed to disclose a traffic ticket he got in 1989, in Newark Federal Court.

Class-action complaints alleging Labor Code violations have been filed against these defendants: Butterball, the poultry producer, in Joplin, Mo., Federal Court; Hallmark Cards, and McCormick & Schmicks Seafoods Restaurants, in Los Angeles Federal Court; Professional Community Management, and C.R. England Inc., in Los Angeles Superior Court; Blue Sky Satellite Services, in Kansas City, Kan., Federal Court; Mid Cities Restaurant Corp., in Beaumont, Texas, Federal Court; Central Turf Farms, in Houston Federal Court; and Great Clips, in Sacramento Superior Court.
