The Ventura County Star persuaded a reporter to move to Ventura from Arizona, then fired her two days after she arrived, due to "budget cuts," the reporter claims in Ventura County Court, Calif. She demands damages for breach of faith, negligent misrepresentation and Labor Code violations.

Class-action complaints alleging Labor Code violations have been filed against these defendants: Smart & Final Stores, Nordstrom, Frontier Homebuilders, and Empire Residential, in Los Angeles Superior Court; Ernst & Young, in Sacramento Superior Court; Servicemaster, in Alameda County Court, Oakland; UPS Supply Chain Solutions, in San Francisco Federal Court; GAT Airline Ground Support, in San Diego Superior Court; and 1st Credit Solutions, and Air One Inc., in Tampa Federal Court.
