Fairfield Southern Co. and Birmingham Southern Railroad Co. left a hangman's noose hanging near an entrance gate for "several months" to intimidate black employees, three workers say in separate complaints in Birmingham Federal Court.

Class-action complaints alleging Labor Code violations have been filed against these defendants: Avis Budget Group, in Los Angeles Superior Court; The Pepsi Bottling Group, in Orange County Court, Calif.; First American Title Co., in Ventura County Court, Calif.; Central Park Boathouse, in New York County Court; George Weston Bakeries Distribution, in Philadelphia state court; L and F Distributors, in Corpus Christi Federal Court; Nationwide Security Corp., in Birmingham, Ala., Federal Court; and Aramark and The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, in a tipping class action, in Suffolk County Court, Boston.
