A head basketball coach claims The Kiski School, a private high school in Saltsburg, Pa., fired him for recruiting black players, telling him that "an all African American basketball team was not consistent with (his) mission," in Pittsburgh Federal Court.

Class-action complaints alleging Labor Code violations have been filed against these defendants: California Fruit Bars, Abe's Deli, and Waste & Recycling Services and Bins 4 Less, in Los Angeles Superior Court; Somerset Mortgage Bankers, in Central Islip, N.Y., Federal Court; Fashion Republic, in Newark Federal Court; RCN Corp. and RCN Telecom Services of Massachusetts and Custom Cable Concepts, in Boston Federal Court; Thermal Insulation, in Atlanta Federal Court; Briley Home Improvements, in Houston Federal Court; Tenzan New York Corp., and Canaan Japanese Cuisine, in Manhattan Federal Court; Johnson Electric Co., in Opelika, Ala., Federal Court; and Joiner & Associates, in Ocala, Fla., Federal Court.

(Companies not separated by commas are defendants in the same case.)
