A hospice worker with a master's in social work says she was wrongfully fired for using the word "pain" to describe a patient's condition to a relative. She sued Life Source Service Hospice in Bergen County Court, Hackensack, N.J.

Class-action complaints alleging Labor Code violations have been filed against these defendants: Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital and Interhealth Corp., New Vista Health Services, Conga Room Life, Goodfood Catering, and Pacific Protection Services, in Los Angeles Superior Court; Waste Management of Illinois, in Chicago Federal Court; Waste Management of Alabama, in Birmingham Federal Court; Wal-Mart, in Philadelphia Federal Court; Comcast of Tennessee, and FedEx, in Memphis Federal Court; ESSI Inc., in Cuyahoga County Court, Cleveland; the Town of Orchard Park, in Buffalo, N.Y., Federal Court; CFI Sales & Marketing and Central Florida Investments and Westgate Resorts, in Orlando Federal Court.

(Companies not separated by commas are defendants in the same case.)
