A worker claims Heide and Cook Ltd. fired him for following a Hawaiian tradition called "uku-pau, which is a practice of going home early after a job is complete but being paid for the full work day." He claims the State of Hawaii and the Honolulu Refuse Division, among others, honor uku-pau, in O'ahu Circuit Court.
Class-action complaints alleging Labor Code violations have been filed against these defendants: PLS Financial Services and PLS Check Cashers of California and Payday Loan Store of California, in Los Angeles Federal Court; JPMorgan Chase Bank, and Branded Restaurant Foods, in Brooklyn Federal Court; Northwestern Memorial Hospital, in Chicago Federal Court; and Centerpoint Energy Service, and BSP Distribution, in Houston Federal Court.
(Companies not separated by commas are defendants in the same case.)
