VISTA, Calif. (CN) - The San Diego Association of Governments has filed 19 eminent-domain lawsuits to build 7 miles of bike paths to provide access to five commuter rail stations in North San Diego County.
SANDAG seeks to acquire property for "the construction of approximately 7 miles of Class 1 Bikeway through the cities of San Marcos, Vista, Oceanside and the County of San Diego," according to a typical complaint in the North County branch of San Diego Superior Court.
Class 1 bikeways are completely separate from traffic, for exclusive use of bicycles and pedestrians.
(Class 2 bikeways are on-street marked bike lanes; Class 3 provide for shared use with motor vehicles.)
SANDAG adopted a "Resolution of Necessity" for the properties during a March 28 hearing.
The two-way paved bike lanes, with unpaved shoulders, will provide access to five Sprinter light-rail stations.
The lawsuits were filed by Nossaman LLP of Irvine.
