Electronic Signatures

A federal court in Ohio ruled in favor of individuals who claimed the state’s enforcement of certain signature requirements during the pandemic made it impossible for their proposed constitutional amendments and initiatives to qualify for the November ballot.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A federal court in Ohio ruled in favor of individuals who claimed the state’s enforcement of certain signature requirements during the pandemic made it impossible for their proposed constitutional amendments and initiatives to qualify for the November ballot. The court enjoined enforcement of an ink signature requirement and ordered the state to accept electronically signed petitions from online databases when considering which initiatives can be placed on the ballot.
