Elderly Woman Says Blog Service Rolled Her

DELAND, Fla. (CN) - A Las Vegas company called Digital Blog World defrauded an elderly Florida woman of $20,000 by promising her a chance to "earn money," she claims in court.

Helen Cornell, 76, sued Amerifi Ltd. dba Digital Blog World, in Volusia County Court.

Cornell claims she responded to defendant's ad for an "online course" for a onetime fee of $199 to be followed by monthly fees of $13.95.

Amerifi told her "that they were selling her 'an opportunity to earn money' but failed to disclose they were selling her a product labeled 'website/leads,'" Cornell says in the lawsuit.

Nor did they tell her they would charge her credit cards $20,000, but they did, Cornell says: $10,000 on April 2, 2013 and another $10,000 the next day.

She claims that the "website/leads" they produced "was a list of addresses with no explanation of how they were to be used or how they related to Mrs. Cornell's desire to 'earn money.'"

Cornell claims that the defendants "had no intention of providing services" to her, and that they committed theft by deception and elder abuse.

She wants her money back, and treble damages.

She is represented by Tara Warrington with Warrington & Erdmann, of Melbourne, Fla.
