Elderly Couple Say They Were Bilked by CEO

OMAHA (CN) - Bryan Behrens defrauded an elderly couple of $1.2 million in a Ponzi scheme, the 82-year-old man and his 73-year-old wife claim in Federal Court. They claim Behrens did this while he was CEO of 21st Century Financial Group, and a registered representative of defendant Sunset Financial Services and its corporate parent, defendant Kansas City Life.

"Using National Investments, Inc., an entity that he controlled, Behrens perpetrated a fraudulent Ponzi scheme upon the Plaintiffs. National Investments was a Nevada company that had its corporate charter revoked by the Nevada Secretary of State on December 1, 2006," the plaintiffs say. "Contrary to his representations, Behrens did not invest the Plaintiffs' money. Instead, he misappropriated the funds for his personal use, spent the money in other ways, or simply transferred money among the Plaintiffs and other investors to prevent them from discovering the fraud."

The plaintiffs say they did not know Behrens was allegedly a crook until the SEC sued him on Jan. 10, 2008.

They are represented by Patrick Brookhouser.
