SAN DIEGO (CN) - The former superintendent of El Centro Elementary School District and two former professors at San Diego State are accused of diverting millions of dollars of federal money to themselves, instead of spending it on elementary school science and math education.
In two federal indictments, prosecutors say former school superintendent Michael Klentschy, 66, and Olga Amaral, 56, and Leslie Garrison, 61, former professors at San Diego State University's Imperial Valley Campus, swiped money from $5.4 million in grants from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education.
The former teachers face multiple counts of mail fraud and conspiracy.
