Duvall Denies Affairs

YORBA LINDA, Calif. (CN) - California Assemblyman Mike Duvall, the pro-family values lawmaker who resigned after recorded comments to a colleague about trysts with two women went public, said his resignation was not an admission of guilt.

"My offense was engaging in inappropriate storytelling and I regret my language and choice of words," he said in a statement posted on his Web site. "The resulting media coverage was proving to be an unneeded distraction to my colleagues and I resigned in the hope that my decision would allow them to return to the business of the state."

Duvall was caught on tape making comments to fellow Republican Jeff Miller about his sexual trysts with the women during a committee meeting break on July 8. Unaware that he was still being taped, Duvall talks about spanking a woman and brags about his ability to carry on two extramarital affairs.

Duvall represented the Orange County, Calif., cities of Fullerton, Anaheim, Placentia, Orange, Brea and Yorba Linda, home to the Nixon Library.
