DuPont Pesticides

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Environmental Protection Agency is setting the bar higher than chemical manufacturer DuPont requested regarding how much residue of the pesticide chlorantraniliprole may be left on certain crops. Chlorantraniliprole is sold under the trade names Coragen and Altacor.

DuPont petitioned to be able to leave .07 parts per million on nutmeats such as almonds and pistachios, but the EPA determined that for the requested uses .04 parts per million was adequate to meet the manufacturer's needs.

The EPA defended its position by stating that Chlorantraniliprole is only considered toxic to people who suffer chronic oral contact with a highly concentrated dose, which exceeds any likely human exposure.
