Drug Recall Came Too Late, Widower Says

PALM BEACH (CN) - Walgreen's recall of a heart drug came too late for his wife, a widower says. Joseph Greenblatt says his wife, Evelyn, died on May 2, one week after the manufacturer recalled a batch of defective Digoxin, and the day after Walgreen issued its own recall - but six days before Walgreen mailed its recall notice to customers.

Actavis Totowa, which makes Digoxin, recalled the batch on April 25 because it had twice the listed strength, the complaint states. Walgreen drafted its own "Urgent Drug Recall Information" letter on May 1, and mailed it on May 8, the complaint states.

Evelyn Greenblatt was 82. Her husband sued Walgreen in Palm Beach County Court. He is represented by John Uustal of Fort Lauderdale.
