WASHINGTON (CN) - President Obama has temporarily reversed a 21 percent cut in Medicare payments to doctors, and raised the reimbursement rate by 2 percent.
The temporary rate extends through November.
The postponement of the Medicare cut allows Congress five months to work out another solution.
In the president's memorandum announcing the signing, he also directed the Health and Human Services Department to reopen 2010 Medicare enrollment through July 16, to allow medical providers who had declined to participate in Medicare due to the cut, an opportunity to do so.
Claims will be paid at the temporary rate retroactive to June 1.
