Drew Peterson Charged with Trying to Hire Hit Man

(CN) - Drew Peterson, a former police officer convicted in 2012 of killing his third wife, has been charged with trying to hire a hit man to kill the prosecutor of his case.

Peterson, who is serving a 38-year sentence for the murder of Kathleen Savio, appeared in court Monday to be charged with one count of solicitation of murder and one count of solicitation of murder for hire.

According to prosecutors in Randolph County, Ill., Peterson attempted to hire a hit man to kill James Glasgow, the lead prosecutor in the trial where he was found guilty in the murder of his ex-wife, Kathleen Savio.

Savio's body was found in a bathtub in 2004 with a wound to her head. Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared in 2007. She has never been found and no charges have been filed in connection with her disappearance.

A preliminary hearing on the new charges for Peterson is scheduled for March 3.
