Donald Trump Sued by Girls Dance Group

(CN) — A girls dance troupe claims in court that Donald Trump's presidential campaign broke an agreement by cancelling a performance and not allotting the group space to sell merchandise.

USA Freedom Kids filed a lawsuit against Donald J. Trump for President in Sarasota County, Fla., on Tuesday, outlining alleged promises made and broken by the Republican nominee's campaign.

According to the complaint, Trump for President made a verbal offer in January for the group to perform at a rally in Pensacola. Though the troupe requested compensation, the Trump campaign promised to secure vendor space for them to sell their merchandise.

"In anticipation of their performance, the Freedom Kids incurred thousands of dollars in expenses," the complaint says. "This includes the purchase of marketing materials and merchandise to sell at the rally, as well as sound equipment and travel expenses."

But the campaign did not follow through on its promise, according to the eight-page lawsuit, and the group performed the national anthem and an original song despite not having space to sell their merchandise.

Later that month, Trump invited Freedom Kids to perform at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa. Upon landing in Chicago on a last-minute flight, however, the group was allegedly told its performance was canceled.

According to the complaint, the Freedom Kids were forced to abandon their merchandise, "suffering a total loss on their investment."

The Trump campaign has allegedly not reimbursed the group, which seeks compensation for damages.

Freedom Kids is represented by Naples-based attorney Marc Shapiro.

The group's Facebook page says the kids "perform patriotic songs that will melt your heart, lift your spirits and inspire freedom."

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment emailed Friday afternoon.
