Doctors Warn About KFC Grilled Chicken

SAN FRANCISCO (CN) - The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine says KFC's new menu item, "Kentucky grilled chicken," contains carcinogenic chemicals.

The doctors' group says the restaurant chain violated Proposition 65 by failing to warn consumers that KFC's grilled chicken contains 2-Amino-1-Methyl-6-Phenylimidazo (4,5-b)Pyridine, or PhIP.

The doctors say an independent laboratory test revealed the presence of PhIP in all 12 samples purchased at California KFC restaurants this year.

The Superior Court complaint says PhIP is a byproduct of the grilling process and was added to California's list of carcinogens in 1994. It seeks an order requiring KFC to post warnings in all their restaurants.

The Physicians Committee is represented by Norman Dupont with Richards, Watson and Gershon.
