Doctors Say Merck Defamed Them

SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (CN) - Merck & Co. and its employee Beth Kallal defamed two doctors by sending letters that accuse them of "conduct unbecoming of a physician" because one of them "asked a question which could be considered embarrassing to Merck" during a Merck-hosted dinner and sales pitch, Drs. Carl Lawyer and Paul Smelter claim in Sangamon County Court. The doctors, and their wives, demand punitive damages.
