Doctor Says He’s Being Defamed on Internet

BROOKLYN (CN) - A well-known physician claims a person or people are defaming him on the Internet, accusing of being a "drug dealer" and a cultist.

Dr. Conrad Fischer sued the pseudonymous defendants in Kings County Supreme Court. Named as defendants are Defense Against Evil aka [email protected], Cult760 and five John Does.

In the lawsuit, Fischer says he is associate chief of medicine for educational and academic activities at Touro Medical College, an attending physician at Jamaica Hospital in Queen, and chairman of medicine for Kaplan Medicine.

Conrad claims that the bloggers, whoever they are, "falsely charge plaintiff, a highly reputable doctor, with having engaged in unethical medical treatment and the serious crime of providing patients with illegal drugs. Additionally, recent comments have identified the plaintiff as a drug dealer and member of a 'cult' that commits fraud."

Fischer claims the comments began on June 19, 2011, when "defendant Defense Against Evil published the following false statement concerning plaintiff: 'DO NOT BE FOOLED. CONRAD FISCHER, MD IS AN OLD MEMBER OF THE CULT RUN BY SHARON GANS. HE PROVIDES DRUGS TO HER AND TO HER OTHER "TEACHERS." Defense Against Evil continue[s] to write 'HE HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE GROUP FOR MANY YEARS AND HAS PROVIDED MEDICAL ADVICE AND AID TO MANY MEMBERS OF THE GROUP. HE HAS WORKED WITH SEVERAL CANCER PATIENTS WHO ARE/WERE ALSO MEMBERS OF THE CULT AND HAS BEEN TOLD BY SHARON GANS TO KEEP THEM ALIVE AS LONG AS HE CAN SO THAT THEY CAN KEEP PAYING TO SUPPORT SHARON GANS. THEIR LIVES HAVE GONE FAR PAST THE POINT WHERE ANY RATIONAL PERSON MIGHT DECIDE TO GO ON HOSPICE AND ELMINIATE A GREAT DEAL OF PAIN AND SUFFERING. SHARON COMMANDS THEM TO GO ON AND ON, SEEKING OUT NEW TREATMENTS TO PNEEDLESSLY [sic] PROLONG THEIR LIVES.'

"The phrase 'provides drugs to her and to her other teachers' as used in the 9:53 P.M. comment is intended to be understood and is understood to mean that plaintiff, Dr. Conrad Fischer, committed the serious crime of knowingly selling or giving prescription drugs to someone who does not have either a valid need or valid prescription for the drugs."

Fischer claims that defendant Cult760 posted a comment on YouTube videos that states: "'this guy is involved in a very sick and manipulative cult run by Sharon Gans. He provides all the drugs for the alcoholic cult leader.'"

Sharon Gans is not a party to the complaint.

Fischer seeks more than $250,000 in damages for defamation.

He is represented by Daniel Szalkiewicz, of Manhattan.
