Doctor Network Fired Secretary Because She Has Cancer, Says Texas State Court Complaint

HOUSTON (CN) - A secretary claims MD Anderson Physicians Network fired her illegally - because she has cancer. Patsy Ross claims that her boss, Anderson's Executive Director William Simeone, became angry when he found that she had cancer, and told her, "I don't hire people who have had cancer or who have kids."

She claims that after Simeone learned of her cancer from a co-worker he harassed her for two years, refused to let her leave work 15 minutes early to participate in a cancer study, and told others she probably had hip cancer when he saw her walking with a limp.

She claims in Harris County Court that Simeone fired her for taking time off to recover from an unrelated injury.
